One of the things I’m not very good at is indecision. Whether it’s my own or other’s, it makes me more than a little nuts. So I’m actually quite good and well practiced at being decisive. I mean I found “my” bike after only three test rides. But now I find myself in the uncomfortable position of being unable to decide whether or not I need or want padded shorts to ride.
I’m generally very comfortable in the saddle for about 6 miles (approximately 40-45 minutes) but after about 8 miles my tush begins to complain. My longest ride to date has been close to 10 miles and I was definitely ready to be off the bike. After a few minutes though, I felt like I could have gone for another ride. Part of my dilemma is this: I’ve only had my bike for a little over a week so conditioning is a factor, but how much? Will not having some padding for my sit bones keep me from taking longer rides? The other part of the issue is that I ride my bike almost every day…that’s several pairs of padded shorts or padded underwear, if I decide to go that route, yet another decision. Perhaps my only way out of this quagmire of uncertainty is to simply get one pair of padded something and see how that goes.
